Casinos and Rain in SihanoukVille, Cambodia

Rain, rain, don't go away! Summer in SihanoukVille, Cambodia is the rainy season. Very few visitors to the beaches (except in July which is one of the busiest times of year). And RAIN. Most days.

With all the rain and so few vacationers, the casinos in SihanoukVille seem very happy. Many people who are here, enjoy the windowless, seasonless atmosphere of the 3 casinos in town, and are happy to while away the hours (and dollars) eating, drinking and gambling.

Fortuna, Holiday and Kampong Som Casinos are all doing quite well at the moment.

And with all the construction around them on new hotels and resorts, it doesn't look like it's slowing down either.

Still, we're waiting a month or two for the sun to come back, 'cause we like our beach time.

SihanoukVille Casinos in 2009

SihanoukVille saw its first decrease in casinos in a long time. Local Cambodian people were banned from the casinos early in the year, and the number of gamblers went down, but the rules seem to have been relaxed lately, and the existing casinos are doing quite well.

Fortuna Casino finished a minor renovation, and has a new mix of machines and a new VIP room.

Holiday Palace Casino seems to have finished their renovations of the last several years, and now has a new coffee shop and spa as part of the casino. They also have the first Indonesian restaurant in town, upstairs.

Kampong Song City Casino is still going strong.

Other than that, it's time to go gamle a dollar and get a free (or $1) beer.
Cheers.

Happy New Year from SihanoukVille, Cambodia's Casinos.

2009 is shaping up to be another banner year for SihanoukVille's Casinos. All the casinos had prize drawings on New Year's Eve, and many featured New Year's Parties, and all were full.

SihanoukVille's newest, and possibly biggest casino, Kampong Som City Casino & Hotel, down the street from Golden Sands and Fortuna Casinos, is almost ready for opening, and by February or March 2009 should be ready.

A change in the gambling laws, (or enforcement) now excludes local Cambodian people from playing the one cent gaming machines, but apparently they can still play at the card tables and other "Live" games. This has been a boon to the sports gambling places in town.

Plans are still in the works for a casino on Otres Beach in a few years, and casinos on the Islands may be coming soon as well.

All the new competition between the casinos has been great for both gamblers and the casinos themselves.

We'll just have to wait and see what other changes come to SihanoukVille for the rest of the year!
